The Finishing Line
Ben completing the sixth and final stage in 1 hour, 12 minutes and 35 seconds. He was the 65th competitor and 10th of the British contingent to cross the finishing line in the village of Merzouga.
Before they all set off, the 5 Kiwi competitors treated the remaining 722 to a beautifully demonstration of the New Zealand Haka.
The route took them over the highest dunes in Morocco, commonly known as the Merzouga dunes.
The competitors crossed the finishing line over a period of three and a half hours. Patrick Bauer, the race director gave Ben and every one of the other competitors a medal in recognition of their achievement.
In a highly emotional and ecstatic atmosphere, rankings didn’t matter - everyone was a winner.

Ben finished the 22nd Marathon des Sables in 132nd place (15th British competitor) out of the 727 who stayed the course , His overall time was 31 hours 4 minutes and 41 seconds with an average speed of 7.11 km/Hr. An incredible achievement!
