Taking a Break
Ben had his day of rest.
Our intrepid marathon man completed the longest stage of the MdS in 11 hours 51 minutes. Placed 181st, he was the 26th British competitor to finish.  Overall he is currently in 150th place (19th British).
Ben’s average speed for stage 4 was 5.95 km / hr. As expected, this was lower than for previous stages. Ben has taken 25 hours 31 minutes to complete the first four stages with an average speed of 6.55 km /hr.
The number of competitors pulling out of the race by this point was  lower that average at 28.  The medical team attributed this to the competitors being very well prepared for the race and the favourable weather conditions. At the same point in last year’s race 147 competitors had pulled out.
The day was tinged with sadness when news broke  that one of the French male competitors had died. He had finished the fourth stage in 45th position and had shown no signs of any medical problems..
