Stage Two - Take the High Road
With stage two complete, Ben is now in 152nd place overall. He came 183rd in this part.
For the British contingent , Ben was 24th and 15th overall.
It was sunny as the 35 km stage got underway at 8.45 Monday morning. The distance was longer than on the first day by about 6 km.
Temperatures rose to above 40 degrees during the day. As usual competitors received water rations at each of the three checkpoints
The competitors crossed terrain which included stony ground, valleys, river beds, a rocky plain, dunes and mountains.
Competitors had a 1 km steep climb up Jebel Oftal. A cord suspended from the mountain top enabled them to get over a ridge without slipping on the long sandy patches. This was possibly the most demanding part of the day. (see Ben’s latest blog entry)
Two competitors had to withdraw from the race during this stage.
